Student: Arash Marzi

District/Region:
Strait District

Event:
2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Arash is a student at Dr. John Hugh Gillis Regional High School and he did his project, 'W.C.A.R.: Wireless Controllable Autonomous Robot', on wireless robots. At his Regional Science Fair, Arash placed Second overall while taking Gold in Intermediate Biotechnology, Engineering and Computer Science as well as a Science Process Award from NSERC.

This project consists of the design, development, and application of a pair of robots that can follow each other. One is remote controlled and the other is autonomous. Multiple integrated technologies such as mechatronics/robotics, embedded systems, processors, and handshaking played important roles in the design process. Because of their capabilities, the robots have original and potential lifesaving applications. This project is in its second round of development, originally introduced at the 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair.

At the Canada-Wide Science Fair, Arash won a Bronze Medal in Computing and Information Technology, and a $1000 scholarship to the University of Western Ontario.

Congratulations, Arash!
