Student: Michael MacIsaac & Todd Mercer

District/Region:
Cape Breton-Victoria Region

Event:
2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Michael and Todd are students at Riverview High School and they invented an alternative for crutches called 'The Alter-Leg', which won several awards at the 2007 Canada-Wide Science Fair. 'The Return of the Alter-Leg' is a new and improved version that has been proven to heal a broken leg faster than the usual cast and crutches.

The 'Alter-Leg' is an apparatus, which has been created to relieve strain from the muscles and bones of the lower leg. The 'Alter-Leg' takes away the disadvantages that come with using crutches and more! By getting one back on their feet and using their leg bones and muscles, they will heal sooner allowing the user to return to their normal lifestyle as soon as possible.

At their Regional Science Fair, Michael and Todd won a Mathematics Award, an Association of Professional Engineers Award, and a Gold Medal in the Senior Division.

Congratulations, Michael and Todd!
