Compost Project

Student: Elise Tessier

District/Region: Conseil Scolaire Acadien

Event: 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Elise is a student at École Rose-des-vents and her project 'Le compost améliore la santé des pommiers et réduit l'infestation des acarie (compost improves apple seeling health and reduces two spotted spider mite infestation)' investigated how compost affects apple seedling health. At her Regional Science Fair, Elise won a Gold Medal.

Le but de mon projet était de déterminer si la chlorophylle des feuilles, la hauteur des pommiers ou la fécondité des acariens jaunes sur les pommiers sont affectées différemment par le N organique ou par le N synthétique.

At the Nationals, Elise was awarded two medals: a Silver Medal in Earth and Environmental Sciences and a Bronze Medal in Environmental Innovation. She also brought home a scholarship to the University of Western Ontario ($1500). Congratulations, Elise!
