The Fat in Your Fries

Student: Sarah Mack

District/Region: South Shore District

Event: 2008 Canada-Wide Science Fair

Sarah is a student at Centre Consolidated School and she did her project on 'The Fat in Your Fries'. At her Regional Science Fair, Sarah won the Gold metal, Peer choice Award, and Best of Fair Award.

Sarah measured the average total amount of fat in 8 different types of French fries in order to find out whether or not it is safe to trust the nutritional information the fast food chains provide. She found that the difference between the chains' nutrition information and the amounts her experiment found were quite different.

At the Nationals, Sarah was awarded a Bronze Medal in Health Sciences and a scholarship to the University of Western Ontario. Congratulations, Sarah!
