Youth Science Canada has announced the new Canada-Wide Science Fair project display system that will make its debut at the 2013 CWSF in Lethbridge Alberta. This means that all CWSF finalists will be required to use the new standard commercial project display.

Good news is that from now on CWSF finalists will only need to bring their display materials – no more shipping fees, extra luggage charges, and no more backboard safety check issues.

A summary of the new display:

2.5 metre tall display units connect to form rows, with projects on both sides – no wasted space

at 1.4 metres wide, it’s 20 centimetres wider than the old table space

at 70 centimetres deep, it’s 9 centimetres deeper than a 24-inch (0.61 cm) table

includes a pre-printed header for every project

two display panels offer 26% more clear space than the old 3-panel rental backboard

acceptable adhesives (including Velcro dots and removable double-sided tape) will be supplied

display materials can include single pages, posters, and decorative items up to the size of the display panels

poster templates will be available on the CWSF web site in 2013

Nova Scotia’s up-and-coming scientists came away with three gold, one silver and fifteen bronze medals from the National Science Fair in Charlottetown, PEI on May 17, 2012. Team Nova Scotia joined nearly 500 of their peers from across the county for the eight-day competition. These top science students will soon be returning to class after collecting prizes and scholarships valued at more than $65,000 from the Canada-Wide Science Fair for their scientific pursuits.

The future of Nova Scotia is in great hands.”

A Café Scientifique is a place where anyone can participate in a conversation about current science and technology over a cup of coffee. Cafes are facilitated by subject matter experts who help to engage participants in the conversation about the selected topic.

“Water for Life” will focus on conversations about something essential to life – WATER! Water is a basic requirement for all life, yet water resources are facing increasing demands from, and competition among, users.

Canada Water Week is a week-long celebration of water from coast-to-coast-to-coast, starting March 14 and culminating with World Water Day on March 22, 2011. Individuals, organizations and governments across the country are encouraged to get involved by organizing or participating in fun and educational events.
In 1992, the UN General Assembly designated 22 March of each year as the World Day for Water. World Water Day 2005 marked the start of a new UN International Decade for Action on water aimed towards achieving international water-related goals and the United Nations Millennium Declaration. The “Water for Life” International Decade for Action provides an excellent opportunity for the international community to advance towards a truly integrated approach to the management of the world’s water that ensures its sustainable use for generations to come.
