The Art of Science Competition
Posted: April 11, 2007

What It Is: Many great scientists were also artists. It is important to be able to document your discoveries as a scientist. Without accessible photography or other documentation techniques that exist today, a scientist had to be able to draw or paint their specimens and experiments.

The Art of Science Competition is a chance for you to spread your artistic wings and fly into the scientific world (and draw a picture). We want to see drawings, paintings, photographs, digital renderings, macaroni art (pictures of your macaroni art) or whatever your medium of choice happens to be - document your favourite scientific experience.

This could be an experiment you have done, a study subject you have worked with, a bug in your backyard that might be a new species, whatever you want. Just document it the artsy way and send it to us along with a brief explanation of how the science bit fits in.

Who Can Participate: Everyone can participate. We will be giving away a t-shirt and $20.00 to the best entry from grades 7-8, 9-10, 11-12. But if you are a science teacher or an art teacher or a history professor that accidentally found this site while looking up Copernicus, don’t hesitate to make some art and send it in, we might be able to dig something up for a 'masters' division.

How to Submit: Since this is the digital age, we are only accepting digital reproductions of your fantastic artwork - please do not send us any meat dresses or voices of fire. You can email your submissions to rowlanck@gov.ns.ca.

Deadline: The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2008.

For more information please contact Christina Rowlands at (902)424-8408 or by email at rowlanck@gov.ns.ca.
